Ice Cream Themed Cake & Cookies

For this three-year-old's birthday, I was asked to make a cake and matching sugar cookies (for favors) in keeping with the party's ice cream theme. I decided to go with a vanilla funfetti cake with buttercream frosting, covered in purple fondant (the birthday girl's favorite color). I decorated the top of the cake to look like vanilla ice cream (white fondant) was melting over the cake, using colored fondant to make the giant "sprinkles". On the top and around the sides, I made some cute ice cream cone characters with various expressions: smiling, winking, and even grumpy! The matching sugar cookie favors were done in purple (of course!) with smiling faces. This was definitely a fun summertime project.
