My First German Chocolate Cake

My friend's mom asked me to make her a German chocolate cake, something I haven't made before. Since the typical frosting of chopped pecans and coconut in a caramel base is kind of messy, I didn't want that on the outside of my cake, LOL! So I deconstructed it on the outside, but don’t worry, a thick layer of that expected German chocolate frosting is in-between the two layers of dark chocolate cake! She really loved it so I was glad to hear that.
